BOAT owners may face restrictions on when they are able to leave one of the Island’s largest marinas next month as a result of renovation work.
A project to replace several electrical and hydraulic components of the tidal gates at Elizabeth Marina in St Helier began this week, with Ports of Jersey advising that the work was due to be completed ‘before the summer’.
Port of Jersey issued a statement explaining that some parts of the gates had been in place for almost a quarter of a century and needed replacing to maintain the safe operation of the marina.
The first phase of work will involve the closure of the southern promenade of the marina on Thursday and Friday, denying access to pedestrians.
During March, the second phase may include the closure of the gates. Exact details have yet to be finalised, but head of marine leisure Simon Porritt said the timings would be communicated to those who used the marina.
Mr Porritt added: ‘We apologise for any disruption Islanders may experience while we replace the hydraulics on the gates, but the parts do need replacing if we are to maintain a smoothly functioning marina.
‘We will minimise disruption wherever possible and will keep mariners updated regularly while the work is underway.’
