Football: Boyle transfer to Guernsey FC still a possibility

Boyle and GFC manager Tony Vance both said after the Muratti in Guernsey on Saturday that the midfielder could play for GFC in the Ryman South Division next season.

Boyle said: I’ve been concentrating on the Muratti for the past few weeks and next week I’ll begin focusing on the Island Games.

‘Guernsey FC is still alive and I’ll be honest there has not been any negative talk about it.

‘I’ve spoken to Tony a few times about it and I just want to pay respect to Jersey and Guernsey and concentrate on the Muratti first and then the Island Games.

‘If it happens it happens but if it doesn’t it doesn’t and life goes on.’

Would the former Airdrie and Southampton FC professional be prepared to move to Guernsey to play for GFC?

‘It’s a big step,’ said Boyle.

‘I’ve got a girlfriend, we’ve been together a few years now and I’m old. I’m looking to buy a flat, I’m comfortable at work and it would be a big step to move and I can’t see it happening.

‘But if I play a few games and I love it and enjoy it who knows what may happen.’

Vance watched Guernsey’s 3-2 Muratti defeat by Jersey on Saturday, in which Boyle scored, and Vance was impressed with what he saw.

Vance said: ‘Jack is an excellent player and he has showed that today and together with Luke Watson they were probably the best two players on the pitch.

‘Every time Jack got the ball he looked like he was going to open some doors because that’s the type of player he is. I enjoy watching players like Jack and I’d pay to watch players like him.

‘What GFC offers is kind of like a Muratti every week. There are logistical issues, there is a stretch of water in the way and Jack and I will talk if the time is right and he wants to progress then of course we are open to looking into how we can make it happen.

‘There are ways and means of doing it and I’ve talked to Jack about that; I’ve got a great relationship with him.

‘Ultimately it’s up to him; it’s going to be a big commitment for him to do and as long as he buys into the community over here as well, which I believe he will be able to do, then I’m sure we can make it happen.

‘There’s been a lot of media speculation about it and I understand that; it’s been a bit sensationalised really but it’s a big story a Jerseyman wanting to play for Guernsey and I’m sure if it was the other way round it would be the same.

‘Ultimately I’ve never really been fully quoted on it; I’ve spoken to Jack on various things and I want to make sure we can make it happen somehow.’
