The States-owned vehicle, which was being driven by a 32-year-old man, was heading towards Havre des Pas when it hit a black Jaguar coming the other way.
According to witnesses, the road-sweeper’s wheels locked up after braking and it veered into the oncoming car before spinning around and crashing through a small wall on the seaside part of the road.
It was left with its front wheels hanging above a drop.
