Gorst to attend corruption summit

Senator Ian Gorst will represent the Island at Thursday’s first-of-its-kind event, which is being hosted by UK Prime Minister David Cameron – who was caught on camera on Tuesday telling the Queen that Nigeria and Afghanistan were ‘fantastically corrupt’ – to tackle issues including corporate secrecy, government transparency, the enforcement of international anti-corruption laws, and the strengthening of international institutions.

Leaders will be asked to sign a global declaration that promises to expose corruption, punish those responsible and help its victims.

Around 40 countries have been invited alongside bodies such as the World Bank and the IMF. The presidents of Afghanistan, Colombia and Nigeria and US Secretary of State John Kerry are attending.
