Candlelight vigil for Paris planned for Monday

Former States Member Sean Power is organising the event and said he is currently trying to liaise with the Bailiff’s Chambers.

Mr Power said Islanders are welcome to join him at 6 pm on Monday and he invited them to bring a candle and ‘Je Suis Paris’ posters.

‘I think we need to do something to show our solidarity with them.’

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft has said he will attend.

Meanwhile the Chief Minister’s office were due to release formal plans for Jersey’s response to the situation on Saturday afternoon.

France has declared a national state of emergency after at least 128 were killed in Paris on Friday during a string of co-ordinate terror attacks.

Eighty people were reported killed by gunmen who burst into the Bataclan concert hall last night and took hostages. Meanwhile, several others were shot dead at restaurants and bars at five other sites in the city.
