Rallying call to Island’s artisan food producers

Since setting up La Crémière less than a year ago, Shelly Dodds and Annie Fenwick have gained a foothold in Selfridges in London, making sales through high-end farmshop retailer Daylesford Organic and online at thefoodmarket.com.

Recently they were awarded five stars for their Jersey Salted Caramel products in the UK Great Taste Awards organised by the Fine Food Guild, a competition that attracts up to 10,000 entries.

Over 400 judges, from all corners of the food world, blind-tasted in teams of three or four, to ensure a balance of expertise, age and gender.

The Jersey company were awarded a two-star rating for their salted caramel sauce and espresso salted caramel sauce and a one-star rating for the rosemary salted caramel sauce. Only 35% of the entries were accredited, with 878 foods awarded two-star ratings and 2,520 one star.
