Preparations were under way to accommodate 2,500 passengers who were due to come ashore from MSC Orchestra – the highest number from a single vessel.

However, due to poor weather which has been forecast, the captain has now opted to bypass the Island. It is due to call in Jersey again on 29 June and 21 July.

Most of the passengers – who are mainly from the US and Europe – were booked on a pre-arranged excursion.

As part of MSC’s Northern Europe programme, the ship was due to begin its journey in Hamburg before visiting Jersey, Cork, Dublin, Belfast, Invergordon and Greenock in Scotland.

There are due to be a total of ten cruise ships calling in to the Island with the last, MS Sea Breeze, due to anchor in St Aubin on 29 September.
