Infrastructure Minister Kevin Lewis has signed a ministerial decision following a request from St Peter Constable Richard Vibert.
The move means that vehicles are only allowed to stay for a maximum of 12 hours in any 24 hour period. There will also be changes to the layout of the car park to prevent longer vehicles from accessing the narrower areas.
Camping or sleeping in a vehicle parked on public land is illegal, but has been informally allowed by the parish authorities. However, the area has become a popular spot for campers in recent years and St Peter authorities have said the number of people staying overnight on the land was causing problems for the honorary police.
Deputy Lewis said: ‘The use of the car park as a camping spot has created issues for St Peter. These changes will assist the parish in properly regulating the area and ensuring that the car park is available to serve the needs of all users, particularly during peak summer months.’
