The incident, which is believed to have been caused by a gas leak, happened on Bagot Road shortly after noon.
Police are currently on the scene and traffic is being diverted.
Bagot Rd will be closed all night & tomorrow morning. Access to property is allowed but please be patient as officers deal with heavy traffic. Plan your journey for the morning as the road remains closed whilst being assessed & traffic will be heavy again during morning rush hour

It is not believed anyone was injured.
A witness told the JEP: ‘There were two very loud bangs and a couple of manhole covers went into the air. A few of the drains went up too. The fire service are here investigating and have closed the road.
‘Luckily, there have not been any injuries and no one was driving over the manhole covers at the time.
‘I do not know what caused it. People did report smelling gas but I do not know if that is result of the explosion.’
Parents picking their children up from Plat Douet School and Charlie Farley’s Nursery are requested to make contact in relation to pick up locations at 15:00hrs due to the road closures.
