Grants ranged from £1,000 to a maximum of £50,000 and will be used by the charities for a wide variety of projects, including renovations and recruiting staff.

Future visitors to Jersey Zoo will be able to enjoy a new walk-through butterfly and tortoise exhibit after the organisation received a £50,000 grant. Jersey Heritage Trust was awarded £5,857 to build an app specifically for Islanders with dementia that gives them access to Jersey Heritage collections and archive photographs.

Children’s charity Brighter Futures was awarded £30,000 to fund a Theraplay project – attachment therapy which involves the parent and child playing together – and the Oasis of Peace received £29,629 to redevelop its community centre, which is linked to St Matthew’s Church. And a grant of £19,936 was awarded to the charity Pain Support Jersey to cover the salaries of two new staff members.

The Gorey Youth Project was given £8,455 towards the salaries of two youth workers. And a Jersey round tower is to be decorated with flowers after the First Tower Community Association was awarded £4,400 and members of Triumph Over Phobia will be able to attend a specialist conference after they were awarded £1,000.

Meanwhile, two new organisations have officially joined the association, bringing up the total number of members to 314. The Neil Hussey Heart Charity, which works to improve life expectancy of Islanders by providing heart screen checks to detect previously unknown heart conditions, and Christians Against Poverty, which aims to support people in debt by providing training in budgeting as well as training on life skills to allow people to live healthily on a low income, have both joined.

Each year the association receives the Jersey share of the Channel Islands Lottery profits from the Economic Development Department to distribute to its members specifically for the benefit of the people of Jersey.
