Before the weather turned near the Italian border, seventh seed Mihaela Buzarnescu was a casualty as she was downed 5-7 6-3 6-2 by Aryna Sabalenka.

At the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota, Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino beat qualifier Victoria Rodriguez 6-2 7-6 (7/3), and will face Sara Sorribes Tormo after she beat Carol Zhao 3-6 6-1 6-1.
Valentini Grammatikopoulou took more than two and a half hours to prevail against Miyu Kato 7-5 6-4 6-4, wildcard Emiliana Arango beat fourth seed Veronica Cepede Royg 6-0 2-6 6-4, and qualifier Renata Zarazua upset eighth seed Ajla Tomljanovic 1-6 6-4 7-6 (8/6).
There were also wins for Elitsa Kostova, who beat Nao Hibino 6-2 6-4, and Ana Bogdan who saw off Mariana Duque-Marino 6-1 7-6 (7/2).
