JERSEY REDS missed the chance to end the calendar year as Championship leaders in a rowdy affair at Bedford Blues.
Near-perfect kicking by Bedford fly-half Will Maisey and a late try by former Red Rich Lane edged the home side 28-19 ahead after Jersey had two players sin-binned in quick succession.
The match was delayed by 20 minutes do to the Island side suffering transport issues and they looked out of sorts in the first-half.
Harvey Biljon’s men fought back from 18-5 down with a hat-trick of tries from hooker Eoghan Clarke to take the lead with ten minutes to go, before ill-discipline cost them.
The Reds ended without claiming a league point from a fixture for the first time this season and will begin 2022 in third place as a result. Doncaster Knights and Ealing lead the way – two points better off.
