Red light for 2021 Muratti Vase?

Muratti Football – Guernsey vs Jersey 2019 – By Ben Fiore 18/5/19

And it looks like it is going to be far from an easy conversation, with each contingent understood to have differing views on if and when the event should be held.

The Jersey FA have been open in their desire to see it go ahead and with Guernsey planning to fully reopen their borders from 1 July there is a hope that the competition could be held pre-season.

The Alderney FA are also hopeful that the Muratti will be held again this year but have said that they do not want to host the semi-final until September because they believe their pitch would be unplayable during the summer. But that suits neither Jersey or Guernsey, as both Jersey Bulls and Guernsey FC will be in the middle of their league programme by then.

However, by stark contrast and much to the frustration of Jersey and Alderney, it is understood that the Guernsey FA maintain strong reservations about staging any of the Muratti finals – including the women’s contest and age-specific games – this year.

This also goes against the general feeling in the Guernsey football community, which is believed to be open to the possibility of the finals being played at the end of the current season. The Guernsey Football League Management are also hopeful that an Upton Park Trophy will be decided between the Islands’ respective league
champions.
