August brought great success for the 23-year-old as he looks to become the Island’s first track athlete to compete at a global event in 24 years. It followed steady progression throughout spring and early summer after a year away from a sport he fell out with in 2016.
Dorey broke his personal best by 1.5 seconds on 19 August to lower the JSAC record to 3 min 45.44 sec, and he now sits just one second off Olympian Colin Campbell’s outright Island record.
The St Mary’s University student also broke the Jersey Parkrun record last month – clocking 15 min 12 sec for the 5 km run at Les Quennevais.
