ONE of the most special and heartfelt dates in Jersey motocross unfolded at Sorel Point on the 6th of September, as the Steven Jeanne Memorial Day drew 92 riders out onto the dirt track.
The day is not just any other race-day – it is an action-packed extravaganza of spectacular racing, all done in memory of the late Steven Jeanne, who was a beloved memory of the community. With this year’s edition being held on a completely redesigned track at Sorel, the action that went down at the track was even more thrilling.
Kieran Gregory completely owned the day in the Expert category to come away with two race wins, hitting a blazing best speed of 43.768 km/h to blast away from the rest of the pack.
Matthew Rayson proved to be a real contender however, placing second in both races, while Sam Stella Allix and Matthew Le Brun each scored a third-placed finish.
The 85cc class saw Monty Le Maistre, Cameron Brazao and Jerome Sullivan lock horns atop the rankings. However, Le Maistre was just a class above the rest on the day to pull ahead in first in both contests, while Brazao finished second and Sullivan rounded out the podium in third, with each race seeing the same order.
One of the day’s best storylines unfolded in the 65cc class – the battle of the Leonard’s. Joel and Jake Leonard squared off in the dirt all day, but it was the former that just about had the edge to win both, with Jake Leonard taking second. Charlie Belchamber and Leon Dowden also each scored themselves a podium finish at third and proved to be a real threat on the track.
Lewis Falle dominated the field to top both of the Auto races, but an enthralling duel between Oscar Carre and Robbie Holland for the remaining two podium spots turned out to be the real blockbuster. The first race saw Carre impose his will to claim second, before Holland then turned the tables on his foe to finish as the runner-up in the second race.
The E4 class bore witness to a commanding display from Oliver Mackay, who topped both races. Freddie Campbell and Ethan Goguelin followed on to make up the podium in the first race, before Goguelin then stepped up a gear to take second and Albie Renouf came third in the following contest.
In what always is the day’s busiest race in the Intermediate/Vet category, it was Reece Falle who rose above the rest to claim victory in both. Silvio Tomas also starred to score second and third-place finishes, Matt Renouf came second in the latter race and Jude Bush rounded out the podium in the first.
Finally, in the Novice class, Joe Ward topped the bill, followed by Jakub Taciak and Marley Raimondo to make up the podium in both races.
