On a cold, drizzly afternoon, Rai Dos Santos’ 75th-minute winner proved decisive as the Bulls made it seven points from three daunting fixtures against play-off rivals.
The visitors, fresh from a dramatic 3-3 draw with Sittingbourne, started brightly. Kieron Campbell twice fired narrowly wide inside the opening 20 minutes, while Nathan Wood forced Euan Van Der Vliet into a sharp low save as Faversham looked lively.
But the Bulls gradually found their rhythm. Toby Ritzema drove the midfield with authority and nearly caught Jacob Russell out with an audacious outside-of-the-boot effort, while Miguel Carvalho and Lorne Bickley both threatened as the hosts grew into the contest.
The best chance of the first half fell to Faversham, but Van Der Vliet reacted superbly to deny George Evans from close range.
After the break, Luke Watson rattled the crossbar from a Jay Giles corner before Faversham struck the upright themselves through Tashi-Jay Kwayie following a long throw.
The game remained finely poised until James Sunley – introduced just after the hour with Adam Trotter walking a disciplinary tightrope – produced a moment of inspiration.
His clever scooped pass broke the defensive line and sparked a scramble in the box. Dos Santos reacted quickest, stabbing home from close range to send Springfield into raptures.
The Bulls defended resolutely in the closing stages. Jonny Le Quesne, making his 200th appearance for the club, produced a crucial late block as nine minutes of added time were negotiated with grit and composure.
Manager Elliot Powell’s side, who had slipped to sixth before kick-off, now sit firmly in the play-off race with momentum building at exactly the right time.
In a fixture that crackled with tension throughout, this was a victory built on discipline, defensive organisation and belief. With the run-in looming, it could yet prove pivotal.
