THE fourth race in the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club’s Pallot Glass & Windows Frostbite series, held on 14 December, saw ten boats on the line for the midday start.

The fresh, sunny, mild and somewhat lumpy conditions were as forecast, giving a constant 16-20-knot wind from due south.

This was just what the doctor ordered for a perfect beat from the starting line, in the St Helier Harbour Small Roads, to the East Rock buoy before boats bore away to continue the race over a triangular course set in St Aubin’s Bay.

Taking her third win in the series, David Jones and Geoff Blackstone’s X332, JAX, was first home to take the race well clear of David Carter’s Sunfast 3200, Lady Penelope, in second. Darren Stower’s First 36.7, Altair, was third.

In the Quarter Ton Class, Team Fahrenheit’s Farr 727, skippered by Justin Horton, took line honours just ahead of Team Tom Bombadil’s Conrad 760, skippered by Steve Pearl, and the race by three minutes on corrected time.

Hani Salem’s UFO27, Matchless, sailed a lonely race in Class 2 but was rewarded by returning the third best time in the combination of Classes 1 and 2.

Don Thompson’s Foxhound took the Class 3a race with a clear win over Paul Raimbault’s Sadler 29, Ruby. Nick O’Hare’s Westerly Fulmar, Honky Tonk, retired after finishing.

This race marked the half-way stage of the Series; Race 5 is scheduled for Sunday 28 December. Boats can enter through rciyc.je/racing, at any point during the series.
