JERSEY’S top tennis players once again proved their class on inter-island soil, defeating Guernsey 8-4 to retain the Bucktrout Trophy for a fourth consecutive year.
Led by captain James Faudemer, the visitors produced a commanding display across both singles and doubles at the Guernsey Tennis Centre, extending their impressive run in the annual Inter Insular fixture.
The visitors arrived with confidence, fresh from a strong season domestically and eager to maintain their hold over their rivals. That assurance was evident from the outset, though the hosts initially made them work hard for every point.
Guernsey took an early lead, claiming three of the four women’s singles to go 3-1 ahead. Yet, even in defeat, there were encouraging signs for the Caesareans — not least from Natasha Forrest, who battled back from a set down to defeat Guernsey’s number one and Island Games gold medalist Lauren Watson-Steele.
The encounter between Forrest and Watson-Steele was one of the weekend’s highlights, a pulsating contest between the two rivals ended in a championship tie-break with the Jersey athlete prevailing 11-9.

From there, the men seized full control. Marnix Van Dalen, Luca Paciello, Jonnie Le Feuvre, and Faudemer all delivered assured victories in their singles matches to swing the overall tie firmly in Jersey’s favour.
Van Dalen’s composure under pressure stood out as he overcame Rob West 7-6, 6-2, while Paciello produced another nail-biting finish against Guernsey’s Tom Turner, emerging victorious 6-2, 5-7, 11-9.
Le Feuvre and Faudemer both added straight-set wins, completing a men’s clean sweep and taking Jersey into a 5-3 lead heading into the doubles.
With just four matches remaining, the visitors knew consistency would be key and they found it in abundance.
At top seed, Van Dalen and Le Feuvre combined to win 6-2, 6-4 against West and Turner, before Forrest and Eva Hurst produced an excellent doubles performance to secure another point with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Watson-Steele and Barker.
Meanwhile, Paciello and Faudemer delivered perhaps the most dramatic finish of the weekend, a nerve-shredding encounter against Ben Ferbrache and Nico Robinson that went the distance.
The Jersey pair eventually triumphed 11-9 in the deciding tie-break, ensuring the Bucktrout Trophy would once again head back across the water.
Guernsey claimed the final doubles match through Lauren Coutanche and Chloe De La Mare, who beat Issy Aldridge and Triona O’Callaghan 6-1, 6-0, but by then the result was already sealed.
The victory continues a remarkable period of success for Jersey in the Inter-Insular, since reclaiming the trophy in 2021.
It also marks another promising step in Jersey’s wider development on the court. With several younger players continuing to impress alongside experienced heads like Forrest and Faudemer, the island appears well placed heading into the next cycle of Island Games preparation.
For Jersey, the win reinforces not just their dominance in this fixture but also the health of the island’s tennis scene.
