JERSEY Leonis Amateur Boxing Club is proud to announce that Charlie Corbel, one of its brightest young talents, has secured a place in the semi-finals of the England Boxing Development Championships.
Currently studying at university and boxing under Islington Boxing Club, Corbel has battled his way through the highly competitive London division — one of the toughest in the country — to earn his spot in the national semi-finals, set to take place tomorrow evening.
He will now face Tyler Quintal of the Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club in the 63.5 kg category, setting up a thrilling and historic Jersey vs Guernsey encounter on a national stage.
A Proud Moment for Island Boxing
Corbel’s success marks a major milestone for Jersey Leonis ABC, showcasing the strength of island boxing at national level. His determination, composure, and technical skill have shone throughout the championships, reflecting the high standard of training within the Leonis camp.
“Coming through the London division takes tremendous grit — it’s one of the toughest routes in the country,” said Jersey Leonis Club Manager, Miguel Ferreira.
Corbel began his boxing journey with the Jersey Leonis Juniors and progressed through the club’s ranks to the senior level, showcasing his dedication and development within the sport.
Ferreira continued: “He was training with us all summer during his summer holidays and that’s massively helped him prepare for the championship, which started a week after he arrived back in London.”
“Charlie’s discipline, attitude, and commitment have been exemplary, and we’re all behind him as he heads into the semi-finals.”
For the Guernsey Amalgamated Club, this semi-final is equally special. Their representative, Tyler Quintal, has just ten bouts to his name and has been the underdog throughout this championship. His spirited run and resilience have earned him great respect across the boxing community — and now pit him against Corbel in what promises to be an electrifying contest.
“It’s a fantastic occasion for both islands,” Ferreira continued, “we have a long, friendly rivalry with the Guernsey club, and to see both islands represented in the semi-finals of a national competition is something to celebrate.”
