JERSEY Triple Jumper Zara Asante secures gold in the Women’s Triple Jump with her first jump of the competition.
Asante’s decorated athletic career suggested she would go into the event as the tournament favourite. She lived up to the billing by delivering an 11.61m jump to trump her opponents.
Having recently moved to the island from Scotland, Asante’s inaugural Island Games comes with a success, beating the Isle of Man’s silver medalist, Georgia Price, by 8cm. Guernsey’s Victoria Hancock took the bronze medal with a triple jump of 11.47m.
Having competed at the highest level for a number of years, Asante displayed her dominance in Orkney with an assured performance winning Jersey their third gold medal of the opening day.
