Cycling: Promising signs for 2019 Games

Games organisers originally left cycling out of plans for 2019 when their bid document was submitted earlier this year, and Hamon – Jersey cycling’s team manager for the 2015 Games – has since travelled to Gibraltar with JCA president Steve Lowthorpe to offer advice about staging road events on the 2.6 square-mile British Overseas Territory.

The GIGA, who last hosted the event in 1995, are expected to hand over a proposal to add cycling to their programme at the International Island Games Association’s annual general meeting in Gotland on 2 July.

‘They had done a lot of work before we’d even got there, which is a good sign,’ said Hamon. ‘It shows they really want it to happen.’
