Sail of the century

Swiss Bank UBS is making its debut on the Island’s racing scene as the annual regatta’s banner sponsor – and it promises to be a memorable one, with a record 110 entries received.

Guernsey is making a very strong showing in the IRC cruiser class, something that is sure to put the Jersey boats on their mettle, while the growth in the junior dinghy class has resulted in over 30 boats racing.

The juniors, coupled with the senior dinghies will produce a dinghy fleet of over 60 – something that has surely never been seen in St Aubin’s Bay before.

The honours in the class two IRC cruisers will also be very hotly contested though overwhelmingly dominated by very competitive quarter tonners. All the above, coupled with the spectacle of up to 20 Hobie Cats racing, should produce an amazing sight for onlookers.

Good vantage points for those wishing to view the regatta, which starts at 10.30 am today, include Noirmont Point, Elizabeth Castle and any other site with a clear view over St Aubins’s Bay.
