Jersey athletes were not involved in the evening session at all on Monday, with the heats of the ladies’s 400 metres being cancelled – the contestants, including Jersey’s Gemma Dawkins (an individual and relay gold medallist) and Katie Silva going through to Tuesday evening’s final in Bermuda.
Another final that will have double Jersey interest, and one that promises to be an excellent contest, is the men’s 800m final, after both Elliott Dorey and Oliver Terry qualified on Monday morning.
Both did so in great style, Dorey tracking Bermuda’s lively pacesetter Juma Mouchette for a lap before easing past him on the back straight for what was a smooth victory. He is looking good.
Oliver Terry qualified in second place in the second of three heats, but did so in a completely different manner. Looking hopelessly boxed in on the second lap he was forced to the back of the field before a late surge took him into a comfortable second place and automatic qualification.
