The former Guernsey representative won a team triathlon silver and a half marathon bronze for the Sarnians in 2007 in the heat of Rhodes.

The 35-year-old offered to run in the half marathon in Bermuda but his offer was declined by the Jersey Athletics Association because he had not achieved the qualifying standard.

Jersey’s women’s triathletes, Sam Horsfall and Jenny O’Brien, also wanted to run in the half, but their offers were also declined .

Holmes said: ‘Bermuda is going to be tough, with the weather, but it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to.
