Just three golds were brought back from the Isle of Wight two years ago while nine were claimed in each of the two previous Games in Aland and Rhodes. A tremendous 14 were secured in the Shetlands in 2005.
Jégou said: ‘Our gold return is simply not down to the performances of our swimmers, it’s the success of the other islands because of the quality of the swimmers they are now bringing to the Games.
‘The standard improves every time and it is going to be no different in Bermuda because the entry lists are littered with international class swimmers, but I’m sure will spur our swimmers on.’
