Hopes of a second trophy were dashed early last night however when Richard Benest was beaten in a five-way tie-shoot for the Donegall Trophy.

With five shots to count, Benest registered 24.2 out of a maximum 25.5. The tie-shoot was won by Great Britain shot Susie Luckman following a score of 25.4.

Jersey Rifle Club’s Lulu Watson scored a perfect 50.10 in The Times competition yesterday, over the distance of 300 yards, to become the second Islander in Surrey this week to qualify for a tie-shoot.

Watson now faces the challenge of Nigel Ball (Stock Exchange), FWA Coetzee (RSA) and 18-year-old Francesca Purdey (Athelings and Greshams).
