In a letter to owners and trainers, club president Christopher Edwards estimates that approximately £20,000 has been lost from gate, tote and concession takings due to the weather – a figure that the club ‘cannot hope to recover’ – even with good attendances for the next six meetings.

With the club’s finances in ‘a precarious financial position’ the decision, ‘reached with the greatest reluctance’ has been made to halve prize money on unsponsored races, as from the 24 June meeting.

This weekend’s Bank Holiday Jubilee meeting is unaffected.
