At Largs in North Ayrshire, Wykes battled his way through to become the first Channel Islander ever to win the title and 24 hours earlier the De La Salle College student and team mates Jacob Gosselin and Phillip and David Quinn won the team silver medal.
And for good measure yesterday, David Quinn – the youngest member of the quartet – won the bronze medal in the individual Plate competition.
These results are unprecedented in Jersey Table Tennis Association history and proof of the excellent work being done at grass roots by development officer Craig Gascoyne and his fellow coaches at the Appleby Academy.
