AN Island-based charity which dedicates itself to supporting Islanders and strengthening the local community has been nominated for the Community Champion of the Year award.
Nominator Lisa O’Connor said that the team at The Salvation Army Jersey had gone “above and beyond” during the three years she had known them, helping the charity go “from strength to strength”.
Ms O’Connor explained that the charity, located in Minden Place, is not just a second-hand shop, but also a café, community hub and food pantry, which she described as a success that has helped many individuals and families across the Island. It also runs a Tots programme, a weekly Sunday church service, and a local Salvation Army band.
Ms O’Connor said the charity goes to great lengths to support the community at Christmas, organising meals, takeaway Christmas dinners and hosting up to 130 people for a three-course meal on the day itself.
Describing the charity as “truly a blessing to this Island and community”, she said the nomination was a way of recognising the charity’s dedication, hard work and kindness.
