On the road and down the Avenue

On the road and down the Avenue
  • When and where did you pass your test and how many times did it take you?

I passed two years ago, in Jersey, first time! I felt like I had already messed up early on so went through the rest of the practical feeling like I had failed already. However, when I got to DVS the examiner said that I had passed and I just burst into tears in shock! I remember he was trying to tell me what I needed to do next and I just kept saying: ‘Are you sure that I passed? Thank you, thank you, thank you!’

  • What was your first car?

The same beaten-up old Ford Focus that I’m still driving today.

  • What is your favourite car?

The Ford Focus RS.

  • What is your worst car?

Volkswagen Beetle.

  • What is your current car?

Still my beaten-up old Ford Focus… it still works great and the dents just add to its charm!

  • What would be your dream car?

A Mini Cooper Countryman.

  • What are your favourite drives?

There’s quite a few! But the top of Tower Road on the hairpin bend is such a stunning view. Every time I drive down there I go extra slow and glance ahead to see the sea. Another favourite is St Ouen’s. There’s a stretch of road with beautiful hydrangeas on either side of the road and the strategically placed shrubs, flowers and trees makes that road so gorgeous. When I drive down there I feel like it might lead me to a magical destination like in one of my children’s books!

  • Do you have any motorsport interests or heroes?

Unfortunately I don’t follow motor sports – but I do love to drive.

  • Do you have any driving ambitions?

A road trip in a place I’ve never been to before would be amazing.

  • Do you think you are a good driver?

I like to think I am. I know I drive a beaten-up old car but I actually bought it already dented thinking I would most likely bump it in my first year, but I haven’t knocked it much at all. I think I’ve done really well.

  • What do you always carry with you on long journeys?

My sunglasses.

  • Who would be your preferred passenger on a long journey?

Someone who listens to the same music that I like to listen to.

  • What makes you angry when you are driving?

I don’t really get road rage, but I guess it’s a bit annoying when you let someone out (you know, being a kind citizen?) to realise they drive (what seems like) one thousand times slower than the speed limit.

  • Have you ever been involved in a crash?

No, and I hope that all the people I know and love will never be either.

  • What do you listen to when you are driving?

My car takes CDs, so I regularly reach for my ‘Driving Rock’ CD or Queen’s Greatest Hits II. My kids usually ask for Little Mix or one of the latest ‘Now’ albums to be put on, which I love to sing along to!

  • How could Jersey’s roads be improved?

I think Jersey does quite well to keep up with the ever-changing wear and tear of the road surface. We can’t get bigger roads, so that’s out of the equation.

  • Do you clean your car, and how often?

I would love to tell you I have an immaculate car all of the time, but that would be a lie! I do clean my car, but I have to wait until my youngest two children are asleep in the car to go to the garage to hoover it… bit of a nightmare, to be honest!

Once it’s clean, it doesn’t stay like that for very long with my three pickles! Over the summer holidays it ends up looking like a sand pit because my kids love going to the beach or the Elephant Park, so sandy toes and buckets and spades fill the car to the brim. I might start calling my car Sandy!
