THE family of five-year-old Kason Le Flahec is inviting Islanders to come together this month to remember him and raise money for three organisations that supported them.

Kason’s Day will return on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October – two years after Kason died unexpectedly.

Islanders are being encouraged to wear blue and yellow – colours chosen because of Kason’s love of the Minions – at work, school and in community groups on Friday.

The following day, a memorial walk will take place, starting at La Frégate before heading towards DVS and through the walkway to Havre des Pas. The route will then continue to Le Mare Slipway before returning.

Kason lived in St Clement all his life, making the route particularly significant to his family.

The walk will be followed by a fundraising evening at the Shipwright Bar from 4pm, with raffles, games, food and karaoke.

Money raised will be shared between Centrepoint Trust, Mont à l’Abbé School and Autism Jersey.

Kason’s mother, Ellie Le Flahec, organised the first Kason’s Day last year, raising more than £4,000 for the three organisations.

Kason attended Mont à l’Abbé School and, during the school holidays, also attended Centrepoint.

Ms Le Flahec said Autism Jersey had also supported the family, before and after Kason’s death.

A mural was created by artist Graeme Fitchett and children from his Saturday Graffiti Club at Centrepoint as part of last year’s event.

An inquest in May concluded with his cause of death remained undetermined, while a post-mortem examination found that Kason had megalencephaly, meaning his brain was larger and heavier than expected.

An underlying syndrome was also identified but was undiagnosed.

Ms Le Flahec said learning that there may have been more to her son’s medical history had strengthened her desire to raise awareness of children with undiagnosed, misdiagnosed or underlying conditions.

“Although nothing can bring my beautiful boy back, I want to turn my grief into something positive and help other children and families wherever I can,” she said.

The family is hoping to raise £7,500 through this year’s event.

Volunteers are also being sought to help with the walk route, first-aid cover and water stations, while raffle prizes are also welcome.

T-shirts in Kason’s blue and yellow colours are available to pre-order ahead of the event.
