PLANS have been submitted to redevelop the site of the former Palm Springs nursing home into a 57-bedroom nursing and care home.
Palm Springs nursing home on Trinity Hill closed in 2021 and demolished in 2022, leaving the site vacant.
A new planning application – submitted by applicant PS Developments Ltd – outlines proposals for a three-storey block connected to a two-storey block, creating 57 care home bedrooms with shared amenity and living spaces and staff facilities.
A previous consented planning application sought to demolish the existing care home, dwellings and outbuildings, and construct three one-bedroom, nine two-bedroom, and four three-bedroom residential units with associated parking and landscaping.
Since that scheme was granted permission and the site was cleared, there has been “renewed market interest” in a new care home as proposed in this application, according to the supporting documents.
“It is considered that there is strong in-principal support for the proposed nursing home,” the application said.
“The whole strategy of the Island Plan seeks to deliver developments into brownfield sites within the Built-Up Area, at optimal densities.
“The proposals within this application have been very conscious of relationships with neighbours, hence using the approved residential forms as the template for the new scheme, including the key building lines and the need to enhance landscape through new planting.”
The site is located on Trinity Hill and is accessible via a private drive to the former nursing home. It is not open to views from the surrounding area due to treed boundaries.
Before it was cleared, the site consisted of a four-storey residential nursing home, a detached dwelling for the owner, separate parking and amenity areas.
The surrounding land is primarily of residential use. The Parish of St Helier care home St Ewolds is south-east of the site, which is a five-minute walk to Waitrose and sits on the number four bus route.
Plans aim to provide “much-needed care home use” to the site within the “approved massing of the consented scheme”.
