JERSEY ZOO is “over the moon” to have welcomed another new arrival this summer.
Five-year-old Esha has arrived from Peak Wildlife Park and is already settling into her new woodland enclosure beside the silvery marmosets.
Native to the bamboo forests of the eastern Himalayas, red pandas spend much of their lives in the treetops and use an extra “thumb” on each front paw to grip bamboo.
The species is classified as endangered due to habitat loss, human activity and poaching across Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar and Nepal.
Mary-Anne Jones, mammal leader at Jersey Zoo, said Esha had “settled in well, growing in confidence both with her new keepers and in her amazing new enclosure”.
“We are so excited for our guests to see Esha scaling the dazzling heights of her exciting new enclosure.”
Esha’s arrival follows that of female western lowland gorilla Afia, who joined Jersey Zoo’s troop earlier this summer.
