ACCOMMODATION deemed to be “substandard” and “long-vacant” with a shop that hasn’t been used in 30 years could be turned into a three-bedroom property, if the Planning Department approves.

Originally a single home, 12 Rosemount Cottages on James Road in St Saviour currently holds a retail unit with a shop and store on the ground floor, along with a studio that includes a living room, kitchen and bathroom.

The first floor is a one-bedroom flat, but the applicants said the units hadn’t been lived in for some time.

A recently submitted planning application proposes a change of use and rebuilding the interior with a living room, kitchen/dining room and master bedroom with an ensuite on the ground floor.

Together, this would replace what the application described as an unsuitable home which had suffered “unsympathetic alterations” featuring a shower described as “not fit for purpose”.

The new proposal, the applicant added, would “restore the building to a single high-quality dwelling with improved layout, natural light, and functionality”.

“The development improves residential quality, enhances the building’s appearance, and makes effective use of a long-vacant unit with no adverse impacts,” they said.

The application, which is graded ‘Major’, is available for public comment until 14 July.
