GAS provider Islands Energy Group has appointed a lawyer with more than 30 years of experience across the international energy sector as group general counsel.

The company said that Karen Lawrie will lead “legal, governance and regulatory matters” across its operations in the three Crown dependencies, providing “strategic legal support” to the business.

Announcing Ms Lawrie’s appointment, IEG chief executive officer Graeme Millar said: “Karen’s appointment represents a significant addition to our leadership team.

“Her experience spans some of the world’s most complex and highly regulated energy and infrastructure businesses, giving her an exceptional understanding of the legal, governance and commercial challenges facing our sector.”

Ms Lawrie added: “I am delighted to be joining Islands Energy Group at an exciting stage in its development.

“The energy sector is undergoing significant transformation and I look forward to working with colleagues across the business to support its strategic ambitions, manage risk effectively and help deliver sustainable growth across the Crown dependencies.”

The appointment of a Group General Counsel comes at a time when IEG and ex-employees are still dealing with the aftermath of the Haut du Mont explosion of December 2022, which claimed the lives of ten islanders.

In March 2025, it was summonsed to appear in court to answer charges under health and safety legislation relating to the tragedy. The case is ongoing.

Three former staff accused of manslaughter in connection to the fatal incident at the block of flats in Pier Road are due to stand trial in September.
