CHIEF Minister Lyndon Farnham will continue to lead the government after he was the only person to stand for the role.
His expected challenger – Senatorial poll topper Helen Miles did not join the race and instead signed Senator-elect Farnham’s nomination form.
With no other contenders, there will be no vote on Friday 19 June – when the Assembly had been due to appoint a Chief-Minister-designate. Instead, Senator-elect Farnham will make a statement of up to ten minutes and then face up to one hour of questions from States Members, after which he is taken to have been selected as Chief-Minister-designate.
The shock confirmation came shortly after 5pm, with the pair releasing a joint statement in which they said they had held “positive and constructive discussions” regarding the priorities for the next four years.
Once the appointment is confirmed, Senator-elect Miles will be the preferred choice to take on the Home Affairs brief she held between 2022 and 2024.
