A MAN convicted of a series of sexual and violent offences against a woman and sexually abusing a child has been jailed for 15 years.

Aaron Trafford Stringfellow (33) appeared before the Royal Court yesterday after being found guilty of the offences, including four counts of rape, following a five-day trial.

Crown Advocate Lauren Hallam, prosecuting, said that the woman described how Stringfellow’s offending have left her “always looking over her shoulder”.

It was also heard that the child has since been “waking up screaming from nightmares” after being sexual abused by Stringfellow.

Delivering the court’s sentence, the Bailiff Robert MacRae, presiding, said that he is at a “high risk of reconviction” and a “danger to women and children”.

Mr MacRae said that in a victim statement the woman said she has since “struggled mentally, physically and practically”.

He said: “On one occasion [you] strangled her so badly she thought she was going to pass out.

“When this happened, she was worried she might not wake up or might break her neck.”

The court also issued a restraining order that prevents him from contacting the victims, that will be in place indefinitely.

Jurats Le Cornu, Opfermann, Entwistle, Berry and Powell were sitting.

The offences took place a number of years ago and were brought through the courts following an investigation by the police.

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Pippa Le Mottee said: “This was a deeply distressing case involving the abuse of a child and a woman.

“We recognise the lasting impact these offences have on victims, and I want to acknowledge the courage shown in coming forward and supporting the investigation.

“This outcome reflects the seriousness of these offences.”
