CLAIMS by a Value Jersey candidate that the Jersey Electoral Authority was “very satisfied” with meetings held with the political movement have been rejected by the authority itself.

In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, the JEA addressed claims made by a “candidate associated with Value Jersey” that suggested the authority was “very satisfied” with meetings held with the group.

“These were fact-finding meetings, as Value Jersey was aware, and no such conclusions were reached by the JEA,” the statement said.

“The JEA does not have any remit or power to make decisions about these matters.”

The authority also emphasised that the only source of official information about the 2026 Jersey elections is the Vote.je website and said it had not reviewed or approved any surveys designed to identify preferred candidates because it is required to remain “impartial”.

The JEA reminded candidates and their supporters that they are bound by the election code of conduct and said it has powers to deal with complaints from candidates concerning the conduct of rivals or others acting in a statutory role during the election campaign.

The statement also revealed that issues surrounding political movements could become the subject of future electoral reform.

The JEA said it is required to submit a report to the Privileges and Procedures Committee after the election recommending changes to election law and practice, and that these are “likely to include” matters relating to political movements.
