A TECH expert has warned Jersey is “at risk of losing my generation” as he declared for June’s election.
Cameron Monro has a master’s degree in cyber security and has worked as an analyst for C5 Alliance and Logicalis.
He is standing in St Helier Central having become increasingly concerned about the cost-of-living crisis.
“Jersey is at risk of losing my generation,” he said. “Young people who grew up here, or came here and built their lives, are being priced out, and that should worry all of us. I’m standing for St Helier Central because I want an island where people can afford to stay, put down roots, and build a future.
“Jersey is too expensive, and the problem goes far beyond the weekly shop. The cost of living is squeezing individuals and families across the Island. Government spending is rising without enough discipline, with emergency funding absorbed into day-to-day costs while critical services go underinvested. At the same time, regulation makes it harder than it should be to start or grow a business. These are connected problems, and they need a focused, joined-up response.”
Mr Monro, an independent candidate, said that St Helier’s high street “deserves real competition and lower prices” while adding that “smarter regulation in key markets” can help make the Island more affordable.
“No single politician can fix this, and I won’t pretend otherwise,” he continued. “It takes an Assembly willing to work together with focus and purpose, and Jersey has every reason to be optimistic that it can. We just need politicians who are serious about delivering.”
