A LAWYER who spent a short period as a States Member in 2014 is seeking to return to the Assembly.

Nick Le Cornu, a resident of Havre des Pas, will be among the candidates for Deputy of St Helier South.

Mr Le Cornu is standing on behalf of new political party People First, which he co-founded earlier this year on the belief that the Island’s government should “work for the many, not the privileged few”.

He said: “People First supports a well-resourced and accountable public sector, not cuts and austerity – quality services must be funded from increased taxation on corporations and the super wealthy.

“The ‘low tax, low spend’ model is broken… finance should serve us.

“Jersey’s government has for long been run for the rich and privileged, ignoring the social and economic interests of working people.”

Mr Le Cornu won a by-election for a vacant Deputy seat in St Helier’s No 1 district in March 2014 but lost his seat at the general election held in October of the same year.

He said his priority was health, with a focus on delivering the new hospital, recruiting and retaining professional staff, ensuring fair pay and conditions and delivering fully-funded mental health services.”
