THERE will be a contested Deputy election in St Saviour after a fifth candidate for the four seats emerged.
Robert Parker, a hospitality leader who has been managing director of the Hotel de France, will face incumbents Deputies Louise Doublet, Malcolm Ferey, Raluca Kovacs and newcomer Chris Leck.
Mr Parker has served as a member of the Tourism Board, Airport Advisory Board, and Public Accounts Committee as a lay-member.
Mr Parker said that he was standing because “too many people on our island are being left behind as we face serious economic challenges”.
“I believe the Island needs a credible strategy built on action, not endless consultancy reports that deliver false hope and frustrate those of us working on the ground,” he added. “We must collaborate to grow a more balanced economy, lower personal taxes, and reduce the cost of living.”
Mr Parker said that he was supporting the Value Jersey mantra as he is “genuinly concerned about the direction the Island is taking”.
“I am a strong supporter of small businesses and acutely aware of the pressures on our hospitality industry,” he said. “We need to restore value for money to Jersey and review States decisions that are inadvertently undermining the competitiveness of our industries.
Two current St Saviour Deputies are vacating their seats at this election. Health Minister Tom Binet is standing for Senator while Deputy Philip Ozouf has stepped down from politics.
