A LONG-SERVING charity worker who was a Pride of Jersey finalist last year has announced his Senatorial bid – with the aim of becoming the next Children’s Minister.

Announcing his bid, Alan Le Pavoux said he wanted to “leave Jersey in a better place for the next generation”.

Alongside a career working in childcare and later for the Bosdet Foundation where he is charity manager, Mr Le Pavoux has a long list of volunteering endeavours – including setting up the website volunteer.je, which pairs Islanders with projects that need help.

A finalist of the Ambassador of the Year category at the Pride of Jersey Awards, he said his experience working in the community and “a lifetime of service” were key to his bid.

His manifesto, he said, focused on “practical solutions and collective effort”. He pledged to tackle the cost of living and create opportunities for young people.

Public finances, he added, needed “a practical, honest approach” – which he said meant smarter spending, value for money and economic growth.

He added: “My ambition is to serve as Minister for Children and Families, because I believe this is where we can make the greatest long-term impact, using my experience, knowledge and connections.

“By supporting children and families today, we build a stronger Jersey tomorrow.”

He cited the cost of living, opportunities for young people and reducing waste and improving efficiency as among the core priorities he wished to tackle should he be successful.

“Your vote is the second most precious thing you have after time, it is your way to express your freedom, if you believe I will work to make our community the best it can be for everyone then please vote for me, if not then please vote for the person who you believe will,” he concluded.

Senators are returning to the ballot this year after a four-year absence. Nine Islandwide seats will be decided on Sunday 7 June.
