Deputy Montfort Tadier

A REFORM Jersey Deputy will be seeking to take his States career past two decades when he stands in June’s election.

St Brelade Deputy Montfort Tadier was first elected in 2008 and was subsequently re-elected in 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2022.

He was one of Reform Jersey’s founding members when it launched in 2014 and has been chair of the Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel during the most recent term of office.

Deputy Tadier will be contesting the St Brelade election, where there will be three seats on offer, alongside his new party running mate – former Environment Minister John Young.

“I am really excited to be running on a joint ticket with John Young,” Deputy Tadier said. “We have worked together in previous Assemblies and representing the people of the parish. John has excellent corporate memory from decades of experience gained in the public and private sectors. We will be working together as a team to deliver for the parish and for the Island.”

During the last States sitting of the year, Deputy Tadier successfully brought propositions protecting the future use of cash and restricting the installation of solar panels on agricultural land after a paper petition signed by hundreds of Islanders.

He said: “Positive actions, like better housing, increased nursery funding, decent wages and free bus travel for pensioners and young people, all make life better, more affordable and more enjoyable for people. But indecision and bad decisions cost the economy and people in real terms.

“The next government will need to take urgent remedial action when it comes to healthcare and the economy. Mistakes made around ferry travel and freight provision will need to be rectified and this will require new leadership that is willing to listen, respond and deliver. Jersey’s visitor economy, in particular, is an area where I would like to help bring growth and innovation. Jersey still has so much to be proud of, but we cannot rest on our laurels.”

Reform Jersey Leader, Deputy Sam Mézec said “Deputy Tadier brings a wealth of political experience. His record on scrutiny as well as his ministerial experience means he is well placed to work effectively across different portfolios. Deputy Tadier is also a diligent and compassionate case worker; he has helped many Islanders with various issues in his 18 years as a States Member. He has proven himself to be a skilled parliamentary debater, able to build consensus across the political spectrum in order to deliver on key issues for the whole Island. I am delighted he is standing for re-election in his home district of St Brelade.”
