JERSEY’S director of Public Health has “made the decision to move on” from the role and will be relocating to Vancouver Island, the JEP can reveal.
Professor Peter Bradley – who took up his post in 2021 having previously worked for Public Health England and, before that, Public Health Wales – will leave Jersey sometime in April.
Following questions from the JEP, the government said that this was a “personal move” and that “we wish him all the very best for his next chapter”.
Health Department chief officer Tom Walker has confirmed recruitment plans are “already under way” and that there are “arrangements in place to ensure continuity for Public Health during the interim period”.
In a statement, Professor Bradley said it had “been a privilege” to work in the Island and that he was “grateful for the support and collaboration of colleagues, partners, and the wider community” during his time in the role.
“After five years leading the Public Health Directorate in Jersey, I have made the decision to move on,” he said.
“I joined during the Covid‑19 pandemic, when the directorate’s focus was firmly on guiding the Island through its recovery phases.
“Today, we have well‑established Health Protection, Health Improvement, and Health Intelligence teams. I believe the Island now has a Public Health function to be proud of, one that is committed to protecting and improving the health of Islanders.”
Mr Walker stated that the department “would like to thank Peter for his contribution and commitment throughout his time with us and are sorry to see him go”.
He added: “We know that the strong foundations Peter has established within Public Health Jersey will continue and we wish Peter every success in the future.”
