A SEASONED recruitment professional has acknowledged the “stiff competition” facing her as she seeks election as the Constable of St Lawrence – a seat also being sought by a former Chief Minister.
ASL Recruitment director Tina Palmer, who has over 30 years’ experience in the private sector, is also an active Rotarian with the Rotary Club De La Manche as well as a Jersey Employment Trust Ambassador and a governor at Highlands College, among other roles.
The mother of three – and grandmother of three – told the JEP that she was “passionate about Jersey” and followed the Island’s politics, explaining that incumbent Deidre Mezbourian’s decision not to seek re-election had given her the “push” to stand as Constable.
“My absolute aim is to focus on the parish and to take the voice of the parish into the Assembly,” Mrs Palmer said, stating that if elected she would not look to take on a ministerial portfolio – but would potentially consider positions within scrutiny.
Noting that former Chief Minister John Le Fondré has also announced his intention to stand as Constable in St Lawrence, Mrs Palmer added: “I understand I’m against some stiff competition, but if I don’t do it now it’s another four years.
“I’ve always been passionate about Jersey, I follow the politics.”
The 64-year-old highlighted her interest in skills, employment and education, but also encouraged parishioners to contact her to share their views and help her put together a manifesto.
She cited the housing crisis, cost of living and issues within healthcare as a few examples of current issues.
“There are so many things going on and I think it’s a case of, at the parish level, you’ve got the power to listen to everybody,” she said. t
“Then you can go to the government and take those views with you.”
