JERSEY DAIRY has issued an urgent precautionary recall for “small batches” of milk and butter after traces of a chemical contaminant were detected.
2.5% Fat Reduced Milk (green pack) 1 litre with use by date of 23 March and 250gm Unsalted Butter with best before of 08/06/2026 were “detected to be contaminated with a chemical which render them unfit for human consumption”, the producer said in an “urgent recall” statement last night.
“The majority of these two products have been detained but some was supplied to customers [on Wednesday and Thursday]. Wholesalers, retailers and other customers have been notified,” the statement added.
Jersey Dairy described the level of contamination as “very small, estimated at 1 parts per million”, noting that there had been “no reports of illness at these levels, so this recall is a precautionary measure”.
“We have been working closely with the Environmental Health Department and Public Health Department,” the producer said.
“We offer our sincere apologies to all customers for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your cooperation in removing these products from sale and use with immediate effect.”
Other Jersey Dairy products are unaffected.
