A LOCAL artist is being sought to give a new lease of life to one of Jersey’s most prominent murals, 27 years after it was created.

Painted by Jason Butler in 1999, the mural at 13 Pier Road – at the top of the Ordnance Yard steps – depicts the bustling activity that once took place between the military life of Fort Regent, the hotels and homes along Pier Road and the trade and commerce around the Harbour.

However, with time having taken its toll on the façade, with the permission of the original artist, Jersey Heritage is seeking to replace the artwork and is calling for expressions of interest.

The chosen artist will be asked to produce a mural drawing inspiration from Jersey Museum’s award-winning ‘La Tèrr’rie d’Jèrri – d’s histouaithes dé not’ Île’ (Being Jersey – stories of our Island) exhibition in collaboration with the community and local schools.

Nicola Lucas, Jersey Heritage’s Community Events Curator and project organiser, commented: “The mural wall is essentially a huge blank canvas for an artist to work on and we are excited to see what ideas they come up with to share the stories of Jersey.”

It is hoped that work on the new mural – which is supported by Benest & Syvret – will start this summer.

Any artists interested in taking part in the mural project are asked to email Ms Lucas at nicola.lucas@jerseyheritage.org.
