A SIX-FOOT bear that once stood in Fort Regent is up for auction, with the proceeds going to Jersey Rescue Dogs.
When they were offered the bear by someone from the 19th-century fortification and leisure centre they considered having it as a mascot, a spokesperson for the charity said.
But it was eventually decided that they would put it under the hammer, with the proceeds going towards costs of their work such as “vet bills”.
The Merrythought teddy bear of gigantic proportion – taller than most people – is modelled in the form of a Beefeater and retailed by Harrods of London.
It’s listed with an estimated price of £100 to £150, but a spokesperson for the charity said it may go for a higher price.
The bear is up for auction in Lot 282 at Glencoe at the Simon Drieu & Co auction today.
