THE voice that has woken up thousands of Islanders for years as the host of the Channel 103 breakfast show is to stand for the States in June.

Peter McLinton – better known by his DJ name Peter Mac – previously served one term in the States Assembly as a St Saviour Deputy between 2014 and 2018. During that time, he was an Assistant Health Minister.

He decided not to seek re-election in 2018 and returned to host the Channel 103 breakfast show having stepped down from his radio duties shortly before entering politics.

He will be standing for one of the three Deputy seats on offer in the St Lawrence, St John and Trinity district.

Announcing his intention to stand on social media, Mr McLinton said: “Right — time to stop thinking about it and actually say it out loud…

“I’m officially announcing my intention to stand for election as a Deputy for District 3 — St Lawrence, St John and Trinity.

“I’m doing it because I think we can do politics better: fairer, calmer, and a lot more focused on getting things done, without turning neighbours into ‘sides’. No blame-fests, no tribal nonsense — just practical solutions that make everyday life better. We’re all in this together (whether we like it or not), so we might as well act like it.”

The Jerseyman was educated at Les Quennevais School and qualified as an electrician with the JEC when he first left school.

He first made his name as ‘Mad Peter Mac’ when he worked as a DJ and entertainer at La Buvette in Bath Street from the early 1980s through to the mid-1990s. In 1992, he joined Channel 103FM when it launched and became one of the Island’s most recognisable broadcasters.

He said that he intended to start his campaign in “in the right way” by “listening first” and encouraged those living in the district to contact him to share their thoughts on “what matters to you”.

Islanders will head to the polls on Sunday 7 June
