A TRIO of talented designers from Beaulieu Convent School have won an international award for their ‘junk kouture’.

Daisy Greenwood, Scarlett Barritt-Wilding and Jessica Murphy – known as Team Carbon Footprint – were collectively crowned London Designer of the Year at the Junk Kouture World Finals, which were recently held in Dublin.

The team won with their thought-provoking design ‘Carbon Footprints’, which was created entirely from deconstructed trainers, football boots, laces and rope.

The judges praised the originality of the concept, the technical execution and the strong environmental message at the heart of the piece.

Beaulieu headteacher Matthew Burke said: “We are immensely proud of Jessica, Daisy and Scarlett. Their creativity, teamwork and dedication have been truly inspiring. This award is a testament to their talent and to the powerful message they have delivered about sustainability and the future of fashion.”

The sustainable fashion design competition celebrated eco-minded and creative talent of 12-19-year-olds, with this year’s final bringing 60 design teams from around the globe to the Irish capital.
